Entry Requirements / Prerequisites
  • Leaving Cert, Level 4 award or equivalent, and/or relevant Life or Work Experience.
  • Learners who are not currently in employment in a registered healthcare setting will be required to undertake 20 hours work experience in a registered healthcare setting (please contact the Student Support Team for further details).
  • As this NFQ qualification is delivered through English it is necessary to have sufficient written English skills to complete this course. Those who are not fluent in English will be required to provide evidence of meeting a minimum English language and literacy competency of B2 in writing, reading, listening, and speaking on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL).
  • Learners must be a resident of Ireland / based in Ireland and hold a valid PPS Number.
  • As this programme is delivered through distance learning, learners must be capable of studying on their own initiative.
  • A basic working knowledge of computers in addition to a computer with internet access and word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word or Google Docs) is required to do the course.

Assessment
  • This Infection Prevention and Control course is assessed through completion of a leaner record worth 20%, work-based skills demonstration worth 40% and a theory based examination worth 40%.
  • A learner record is a self-reflective record  where the learner reports on their learning experiences, activities and progress. A skills demonstration is a practical assessment where the learner performs specific that  demonstrate a range of skills. An exam is a formal, timed assessment used to evaluate a learner’s knowledge and understanding under controlled conditions. Learners are required to have access to Zoom in order to complete the exam. The exam must be completed on a PC or laptop with a camera.
  • Assessments are submitted online via the eLearning site. They are reviewed by the course tutor and feedback is provided to learners within 5 working days. Learners are only permitted to submit one assessment at a time and must receive feedback on one assessment before submitting the next. All work submitted must be the learners own work.
  • As part of our quality assurance, student assessment work will be marked by an Internal Assessor, then checked by an Internal Verifier and an independent QQI External Authenticator.
Transfer and Progression to Further Studies
  • This Infection Prevention and Control course leads to a Level 5 component award on the National Framework of Qualifications.
