CMIT is committed to making our website, our Moodle eLearning platform, and our learning materials accessible to all learners, including people who use assistive technologies.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, and our obligations under the European Accessibility Act, as transposed in Ireland by S.I. No. 636 of 2023.

Conformance status

Our website, eLearning platform and learning materials are partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Some videos and course manuals do not yet meet the standard, and we aim to make all materials accessible by the end of October 2026.

What we do

• Accessible learning platform: We use Moodle 4, which is built and maintained with accessibility in mind.
• Recorded video: We provide closed captions and a text version of the slide content for all new recorded video content.
• Live webinars: Live captions are available in every Microsoft Teams webinar, and the joining information explains how to turn them on.
• Screen-reader-friendly documents: We tag our PDFs and Word documents with structured headings, alternative text for images, marked-up tables, and a logical reading order.
• Clear web content and forms: We write in plain language with correct headings, lists, tables and alternative text, and design forms with clear labels, a logical tab order and understandable error messages.

Known limitations

Live webinar captions: Microsoft Teams generates live captions automatically, and they are not checked for accuracy, so we do not treat them as fully meeting WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.2.4 Captions (Live). If they do not meet your needs, contact Student Support before the session to arrange a reasonable accommodation.

Third-party material: Some course content reproduces or links to material published by other organisations, including gov.ie, Tusla and the NCCA. Tell us if you have difficulty with any of it and we will provide an accessible alternative.

Alternative formats and reasonable accommodations

If you need a resource in another format, such as large print or a transcript, or any other reasonable accommodation, request it through your Personal Learning Plan, the Reasonable Accommodation Form or Student Support.
