Who should complete this course?

  • Childcare workers, Childcare supervisors and Childcare managers.
  • People who wish to gain an accredited qualification in childcare and wish to study at their own pace, and in their own time.


Entry Requirements / Prerequisites

  • Level 4 Certificate, or Leaving Cert, or equivalent, or relevant life and work experience.
  • As this programme is delivered through distance learning, students must be capable of studying on their own initiative.
  • Applicants must currently be working in a childcare setting, as assignments will require learners to draw upon practical experience.
  • A basic working knowledge of computers and access to a computer with internet access is required to do the course.

Assessment

  • This course is assessed through completion of an assignment and a learner record.
  • As part of our quality assurance, student assessment work will be marked by an Internal Assessor, then checked by an Internal Verifier and an independent FETAC External Authenticator.


Transfer and Progression to Further Studies

  • This course leads to a Level 5 component award on the National Framework of Qualifications.
  • Students who successfully complete this programme may use this level 5 component certificate as credit towards the following FETAC Major Awards: Level 5 Childcare (DCHSC) and Level 6 Supervision in Childcare (DCXXX). For more details contact us.


Learner Protection

  • CMIT is subject to section 43 of the Qualifications Act 1999 and as such, has put in place appropriate arrangements in place for the protection of learners on FETAC programmes which have a duration of three months or longer, should CMIT unexpectedly cease to provide such a FETAC programme. To comply with this, CMIT has either:- (1) arrangements in place with at least two other FETAC registered organisations so that learners may transfer to complete their programme, or (2) a Bank Guarantee is in place so that learners may be refunded.



Accreditation

  • Following successful completion you will receive a FETAC Level 5 component certificate in Working in Childcare (D20153).
  • The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is the national awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. CMIT is registered with FETAC to offer programmes leading to FETAC awards in the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland.
  • Please note that there is a EUR60 fee payable for administration, moderation and certification.
