Course Details

This distance learning course is designed for supervisors, managers or owners of childcare facilities. The course covers the following topics: (1) how to manage your time more effectively, (2) how to lead and manage staff, (3) how to be better organised, (4) how to solve management problems, (5) how to recruit, motivate, and (6) how to manage performance.

This distance learning, FETAC accredited course means that Students can study flexibly at home, or at work, and can gain a nationally accredited Qualification. The course is designed for those working in Large Companies, SMEs or the Public Sector.

Who should complete this course?

  • Existing childcare Managers and Supervisors who wish to gain a formal accredited qualification.
  • Newly appointed childcare Managers and Supervisors who wish to learn how to manage people and teams.
  • People in childcare operations who have direct reports and wish to learn best-practice techniques for managing people.
  • People who wish to gain a professional, accredited qualification in the subject matter by home study distance learning.


Entry Requirements / Prerequisites

  • Leaving Cert or equivalent, and/or relevant Life or Work Experience.
  • As this programme is delivered through distance learning, students must be capable of studying on their own initiative.
  • A basic working knowledge of computers and access to a computer with internet access is required to do the course.
  • Applicants must currently be working in a childcare setting, as assignments will require learners to draw upon practical experience.

Assessment

  • This course is assessed through completion of a number of activities and completion of a personal Learner Record which records your personal experience of supervision in a childcare context. This will cover planning of initiatives, making decisions, in addition to demonstrating your supervision and organisational skills. All work submitted must be your own work.
  • As part of our quality assurance, student assessment work will be marked by an Internal Assessor, then checked by an Internal Verifier and an independent FETAC External Authenticator.


Transfer and Progression to Further Studies

  • This course leads to a level 6 component award on the National Framework of Qualifications.
  • Students who successfully complete this programme may use this Level 6 component certificate as credit towards the FETAC advanced certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (Ref. 6M2007). For more details contact us.


Learner Protection

  • CMIT is subject to section 43 of the Qualifications Act 1999 and as such, has put in place appropriate arrangements in place for the protection of learners on FETAC programmes which have a duration of three months or longer, should CMIT unexpectedly cease to provide such a FETAC programme. To comply with this, CMIT has either:- (1) arrangements in place with at least two other FETAC registered organisations so that learners may transfer to complete their programme, or (2) a Bank Guarantee is in place so that learners may be refunded.



Accreditation

  • Following successful completion you will receive a FETAC Level 6 component certificate in Supervision in Early Childhood Care (6N1973).
  • The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is the national awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. CMIT is registered with FETAC to offer programmes leading to FETAC awards in the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland.
  • Please note that there is a EUR60 fee payable for administration, moderation and certification.

Student Dec 2012 I want to work with children, I was always around them all my life. In a future I want to open my own creche so I need more qualification. Also I was doing course with CMIT before and I was very happy with programme.

I found this course to be very well priced. the tutors were prompt and informative in their responses , the course notes were very detailed and relevant to the day to day workings of a creche. Really enjoying the cource. Feedback gave me a sense of acheivement. College notes excellent. I seem to be putting in a lot more hours to my studies than i thought i would have to, but im still enjoying it and looking forward to completing the cource.

The course was flexible and suited my lifestyle. I also found the staff to be very informative, helpful and easy to approach. They promised that I would have good support throughout the duration of the course and I found my tutor to be very encouraging and supportive. I found the CMIT staff to be very approachable and helpful.
