Course Details

CMIT are offering healthcare support staff an opportunity to pursue the Level 5 Healthcare Support Certificate course through blended learning. This course has been specifically designed to equip staff with a recognised qualification. In a climate where time is precious, CMIT is offering an innovative approach to learning.

 

The course includes four workshops (held in Dublin), distance learning provided through our elearning system and Tutor support for the duration of the course. Students have 24x7 access to CMIT eLearning for the duration of the course. This includes comprehensive course manuals, webinars, videos, quizzes, activities, online student forums and one-to-one Tutor Support. The course is very user friendly and easy to follow. You will also be able to upload assessments online and receive comprehensive Tutor feedback on all assessments. You can use the eLearning system from any computer that has internet access.

The course Tutor, is a registered nurse. The tutor will provide assistance throughout the course, and will provide written personalised feedback on all your assessment work.

Who should complete this course?

  • Employees of registered care settings / nursing homes who are required to meet the training standards for employment as a Care Assistant.
  • Those who are on work experience within a care setting / nursing home who wish to acquire qualifications necessary for employment.


Entry Requirements / Prerequisites

  • Learners must hold a Level 4, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experience.
  • Learners must currently be working (or on work experience) in a healthcare setting for a minimum of 6 hours per week, throughout the course, as assessments will require learners to draw upon practical experience. You must secure a suitable Supervisor/Manager (Registered General Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse).
  • Learners should hold an Irish Heart Level 3 Heart Saver CPR Certificate or equivalent, or be working towards this.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English.
  • Applicants should have a basic working knowledge of computers and access to a computer with internet access is required to do the course.
  • Applicants must be able to attend four workshops, held in Dublin, in order to receive certification.

Dates

  • Enrol now to commence in Sept 2012 (workshops Oct, Jan, Mar and July) - course complete in July 2013.


Exemptions

  • It is possible to gain exemptions from certain components of the course. If you already hold a FETAC award, please contact us for details and we will advise you of available exemptions.


Assessment

  • This course is assessed through completion of project work, assignments, personal learner records, skills demonstrations and one exam.
  • All work submitted must be your own work (all work submitted will be checked using plagiarism software).
  • As part of our quality assurance, assessment work will be marked by an Internal Assessor, then checked by an Internal Verifier and an independent FETAC External Authenticator.


Transfer and Progression to Further Studies

  • This course is listed on the Higher Education Links Scheme, and, on successful completion, may be used to obtain access to a course at a higher level (e.g. Level 7 or 8 on the National Framework). Options include the HETAC Level 8 Degrees in Social Studies in Social Care and Health Promotion and Physical Activity. For more details contact us.


Accreditation

  • Following successful completion you will receive a FETAC Level 5 Healthcare Support Certificate (DHSXX).
  • The Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) is the national awarding body for further education and training in Ireland. CMIT is registered with FETAC to offer programmes leading to FETAC awards in the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland.
  • Please note that there is a EUR120 fee payable for administration, moderation and certification.
