Course Details

This advanced coaching course is particularly well suited to those who intend either to assume significant responsibility for organisational coaching and mentoring, or are operating as freelance/professional management coaches and mentors. . Participants will learn how to: (1) develop coaching programmes, (2) conduct professional coaching sessions, (3) build rapport, (4) listen and ask appropriate questions, (5) negotiate and give feedback, and (6) continuously develop their skills as a coach.

 

Coaching for managers is defined as the process of enabling individuals to acquire the knowledge, skills and techniques needed to perform effectively in their occupational role by motivating, inspiring, challenging, stimulating and guiding them. Learners will be able to recognise the needs of individuals being coached, develop coaching programmes appropriate to meet those needs, and help individuals achieve to their full potential.

This distance learning, ILM accredited course means that learners can study flexibly at home, or at work, and can gain a nationally recognised Qualification. The course is designed for those working in small companies, corporate and the public sector.

Who should complete this course?

  • This course is particularly suited to those who intend to assume significant responsibility for organisational coaching and mentoring, or who wish to operate as freelance management coaches and mentors.
  • Those who are involved in staff development or in coaching staff on an regular basis.
  • Managers and Supervisors who wish to gain a high level of expertise in coaching.


Entry Requirements / Pre-requisites

  • Candidates will normally be practicing managers or supervisors with coaching responsibility. 

  • They should normally have successfully completed a FETAC award in Management, an ILM Level 5 award, or an equivalent qualification.

  • Candidates who have no formal qualification in management, but who have several years’ experience and completed some formal training in the role, may also participate.

  • As this programme is delivered through distance learning, candidates must be capable of studying on their own initiative.
  • A basic working knowledge of computers and access to a computer with internet access is required to do the course.
  • Candidates are required to complete 100 hours coaching practice (preparation, coaching, reflection) during the course.


Assessment

  • This course is assessed through Assessments. This includes developing a coaching programme, undertaking coaching, and reflecting upon this (candidates are required to complete 100 hours of coaching delivery).
  • All work submitted must be your own work. There is no exam with this course.
  • As part of our quality assurance, learner assessment work will be marked by an Internal Assessor, then checked by an Internal Verifier and an External Verifier.


Progression and Transfer to Further Studies

  • This course leads to an award recognised at Level 6 award on the National Framework of Qualifications in Ireland.
  • Learners who successfully complete this programme may use this level 6 certificate as credit towards other awards. For more details contact us.


ILM Membership

  • All registered candidates automatically become studying members of the ILM for 6 months, free of charge, and can enjoy a range of member benefits. 


Accreditation

  • Following successful completion you will receive an ILM Level 5 "Diploma for Professional Management Coaches and Mentoring" from the Institute of Leadership and Management.
  • The National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI) recognised this as an equivalent to a Level 6 Award in Ireland.
  • ILM is a recognised awarding body in Ireland. CMIT is registered with ILM to offer programmes leading to ILM awards.
